for business owners
If your business is listed in the etheco directory — or you think it should be — this page explains how it all works: how we decide who’s included, how to keep your listing accurate, and how to claim it as your own.
How to be included
How does etheco decide which businesses to list?
The etheco directory is curated, not pay-to-play. Every listing is based on our independent editorial assessment using the 4Ps framework — People, Planet, Pocket and Performance. We look at genuine ethical and environmental credentials: accreditations, certifications, operational practices, supply chain transparency and publicly available data. Inclusion is based on relevance and the quality of available evidence, not on whether a business has a commercial relationship with us.
Can I apply to be listed?
Yes. We welcome suggestions from business owners and consumers alike. To put your business forward, email us at partners@etheco.com with your business name, website URL, the category you operate in, and a summary of your ethical and environmental credentials (certifications, accreditations, relevant policies). Our editorial team will review your submission and let you know the outcome. Inclusion is always at editorial discretion — we assess every business on its merits, and we’ll be honest with you about where you stand.
Is there a cost to being listed?
No. A standard listing in the etheco directory is free and always will be. Inclusion is earned through editorial assessment, not purchased. In the future, we may offer an optional ‘Verified by etheco’ trust mark — an independently assessed certification for businesses that want a premium credential to display on their own marketing. This would be a paid service, but it would never affect a business’s organic rating in the directory. Your score is your score, regardless of what you pay or don’t pay.

How to update your listing
We want every listing in the directory to be accurate and up to date. If something about your listing needs correcting — your website address, the products or services you offer, a certification you’ve gained or lost, or any other factual detail — we want to know about it.
How to request a correction
Email partners@etheco.com with your business name, the URL of your listing in our directory, a clear description of what needs correcting, and any supporting evidence (a link to your website, a certificate, a screenshot). Straightforward factual corrections — a wrong website address, an outdated product range, a missing certification — are usually processed promptly. Changes that could affect your etheco rating may require a fresh review against the 4Ps framework, which can take longer.
We aim to process all correction requests within ten working days. We’ll always acknowledge your request and let you know the outcome.
What if I disagree with my rating?
We welcome constructive engagement from any business we rate. If you believe your rating doesn’t reflect your current practices, you can submit evidence to support your case and our editorial team will review it. We will update ratings where the evidence warrants it.
To be transparent: we will always consider evidence-based requests in good faith, but we are not obliged to change a rating simply because a business disagrees with it. Our ratings are based on our published methodology and the data available to us. If you can show us something we’ve missed or something that’s changed, we genuinely want to see it. But editorial independence is the foundation of what we do, and we won’t compromise on it.
How to claim your listing
We’re building a self-service feature that will let you claim and manage your listing directly. When it launches, claiming your listing will verify you as an authorised representative of the business and give you access to a Business Dashboard where you can:
Confirm or correct your business details — your description, contact information, website URL, social media links, product and service categories, and certifications.
Download the ‘Featured on etheco’ badge — a trust mark you can display on your own website, linking back to your directory listing.
Receive notifications when your listing is updated or when there are changes that affect your business category.
Respond to user feedback (coming in a future release) — giving you a direct line to the consumers finding you through etheco.
The claiming process is designed to be simple and accessible, whether you’re a large brand or a sole trader. We verify your identity through your business email domain, or through a manual review if you use a personal email provider. The whole process typically takes five to ten working days.
This feature is coming soon. To register your interest and be among the first to claim your listing when it launches, email partners@etheco.com with your full name, job title, business name and the URL of your listing in our directory.
Does claiming my listing affect my rating?
No. Never. Your etheco rating is based entirely on our independent assessment using the 4Ps framework. Claiming your listing gives you the ability to manage your profile and keep your information current — it has no bearing whatsoever on your score. Rated and claimed are two completely separate things.
